Hot summer days at the cottage when all of the activity was taking place at the waters edge. The competative spirit was alive and well back in the day and not to be out done, Uncle Bill would strap on the trick ski's and wow everyone with 180's skiing backwards, 360 spins. or how about sking on 1 ski with the ski bar tucked underneath one knee and his hands behind his head...geesh! If that didn't impress you Bill would fly up and off the end of a massive home made wooden ski jump positioned in front of the swim area and stick the landing.
Bill enjoyed playing scrabble with my parents and often commented with an expression of utter joy how smart my mom (Juny) was and about her big word scores.
I think for my Uncle Bill there were 2 ways to do a job. The was the right way and the wrong way and your way was likely wrong, lol. All joking aside, you could always count on Uncle Bill for detailed accurate advise and/or information on how to get things done right. At my asking Bill provided excellent advise on how to build and shingle a new roof for my boat house, He even dropped by to see how I was making out.
Poison Ivy? Not an issue for Bill as he demonstrated for Lynda and I one day by stripping off some fresh poison ivy leaves and rubbing them agressively between his hands. We were always amazed at his strength and fortitude in his senior years; most notably digging post holes and setting long heavy wooden fence posts around his property all on his own.
He always greeted Lynda and I with a welcoming smile on those rare occassions when we bumped into each other in town. He always took time to ask how Lynda and I and our girls were doing. He would tell us how Aunt Pat and his 4 boys and respective families were doing too. We have missed those meetings for sometime now.
A kind compasionate man with great integrity who was loved and fondly remembered R.I.P.
