MERCHANT, Vera May (Longtime faithful member of St. George’s Anglican Church in Hastings, avid quilter, former member of Warkworth branch Order of the Eastern Star) – At her residence in Hastings on Friday, March 9, 2018, Vera Merchant (nee Vale), in her 94th year. Wife of the late Sydney Merchant. Dear mother of Anne Delong of Bowmanville, Frederick of Comox, B.C., Catherine Smith of Peterborough, Thomas of Hastings, Barbara of Ennismore, Allan of Lake Cowichan, B.C., Craig of Hastings and the late Sydney. Lovingly remembered by fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Sister of Anita Stainton and the late Violet Vale, Leonard Vale, Myrtle Thomas and Laurence Vale. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Resting at the BRETT FUNERAL CHAPEL, HASTINGS on Sunday from 2 – 5 pm. Funeral Service to be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Hastings, on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 1:30 pm, Reverend Bryce Sangster officiating. Interment Trent Valley Cemetery in the spring.
